Make an unfamiliar journey more predictable

Know the first step and what to do if the plan changes.

An adult checks a route at a bus stop before travelling.

Check the practical details

Look up current times, stops, fares and accessibility with the transport provider. Save the destination and return route in a form you can use without a signal.

Reduce the unknowns

If useful and possible, practise part of the journey at a quieter time or with someone you trust. Decide where you can stop to check directions without rushing.

Plan for a change

Choose a contact or staffed help point and consider what you would do after a missed connection. You choose whether to share a diagnosis; asking for directions does not require it. The source includes pandemic-era experiences, not current travel rules.
